Veena Malik accuses Indian manager of blackmail

Pakistani actress Veena Malik on Sunday accused her former manager, an Indian national named Prashant Singh, of betraying her and posting controversial photographs on her "hacked" Facebook page and Twitter account.


Malik alleged Singh was also blackmailing her for money and cheap popularity. Singh was earlier responsible for handling digital media for Malik in India.

"He is a liar, his allegations are baseless. He was like a brother, he used to love me like his sister," she said, referring to Singh's claim that he was her boyfriend. She said she had been busy after her marriage to Dubai-based businessman Asad Bashir Khan Khattak last month and could not change the password of her accounts on social networking sites.

Singh "was my employee on a salary of Rs 10,000. He is an Indian citizen, he should live within his limits," Malik was quoted as saying by Geo News channel.

She claimed she had paid Singh an advance of Rs 3 lakh. She said she reserved the right to take legal action against Singh for claiming that he was her boyfriend.

Noting that she quite happy with her husband, Malik said, "He is a Pathan, he knows how to protect me."

Malik had triggered a controversy by doing a topless photo shoot for an Indian magazine, for which she was denounced by extremists and clerics in Pakistan. PTI

'Dhoom: 3' becomes highest grossing film in Nepal

Bollywood hit 'Dhoom: 3' has created history in Nepal by becoming the first film to gross Rs 6 crore at the box office.

The movie - starring Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Abhishek Bachchan - earned the amount in just two weeks.

The film has been screened without competition at multiplexes across Nepal, including the Kathmandu Valley.

According to sources close to the film's distributor, 'Dhoom: 3' is the first film to earn Rs 6 crore in Nepal.

A Nepali film is considered a hit if it earns around Rs 20 lakhs at the box office. By that standard, 'Dhoom: 3' has earned the equivalent of 30 hit Nepali films.

Last year, around 60 foreign films released in three multiplexes in Kathmandu earned over Rs 20 crore.

"It is natural that hit artists like Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and Katrina Kaif sell well in the Nepalese market", said Tirtha Thapa, a noted film director.

"The brand name of the Indian film industry sells here, rather than the story," he said. "The artist, acting and quality of a picture make it successful in the eye of viewers."

Indian films dominate Nepal's movie halls. It is only in remote villages where Nepali films have a high demand, Thapa said.

In major cities like Kathmandu, Biratnagar, Pokhara and Bhairahwa, Hindi films have an 80 per cent share of the market, according to him.

The quality of Nepali films is deteriorating though the number of movies produced every year has touched 120, Thapa said.

A decade ago, Nepali films used to earn Rs 50 lakhs to 60 lakhs but now they hardly make Rs 15 lakhs to 20 lakhs, he added.

Dear Miley Cyrus, Making Out With Everyone Does Not A Feminist Make

First off, it should be acknowledged that Miley Cyrusdeserves props for openly embracing the label 'feminist' when many people -- especially celebrities -- are still wary of doing so. And Miley has, if nothing else, sparked some very interesting conversations about women, pop culture, performative idenitites, and media in 2013. For that, we thank her. But it doesn't mean we can't be a little critical. 

Recently Miley has been speaking out in interviews, going so far as to declare herself "one of the biggest feminists in the world" because she tells women "to not be scared of anything." But what Miley may not realize is that she tells women lots of other things too. Of course fearlessness is an admirable quality in any person -- male or female -- and nobody would deny that such a message works well with a feminist movement, but Miley has also equated her antics on stage and in her videos (many of which involve her being naked or some variation thereof) with women's empowerment. Sinead O'Connor tried to explain why some of this is problematic in her initial open letter to Miley (which then turned into a Twitter feud, naturally). Miley has done what many women have done, in that she has conflated sexual empowerment or agency with sexual exploitation. Perhaps it's a thin line, but the difference has to be acknowledged. Many people are working to explore these complexities in modern feminist thought as it relates to pop culture, like the folks who created this video:

Since her unforgettable MTV Video Music Awards performance, Miley has continued to be a walking contradiction (which is partly what makes her so fascinating) -- showing up barely dressed and seemingly attention-starved at one event, then classying it up for the next. Joining the Free the Nipple campaign because she's a feminist (and she thinks all feminists should want to walk around topless), and making out with supermodels and backup dancers all in the name of doing what she wants to do -- another ideal that she probably thinks makes her a feminist.
But a big part of feminism has to do with challenging the very notion of "want" as it relates to women. Is Miley doing what she wants to do, or has she just convinced herself that she wants to perpetrate this particular image? And again, her image is complicated and not easily pinned down -- something else we might applaud her for -- but the reality is that, for the most part, she comes off like a 24-hour publicity tool. Her image as a sexual being is at the forefront of her so-called music  career, and that alone almost entirely negates any feminist ideas she might be able to put out there. Which is sad. Miley's no Beyoncé on the microphone but she's got enough talent and personality (and sexual appeal too, because -- hey -- there's nothing wrong with that!) to be a big deal. One has to hope that, as she matures, so will her definition (and performance) of feminism. She could use a little refresher on the women's lib movement too, but then again, couldn't we all?

Spotted: Nargis in bikini with Uday Chopra

Ranbir and Katrina's relationship became public after they were spotted holidaying together in Ibiza in bikini. If this is the trend, then there is another Bollywood couple whose holiday pictures have come out.

This time it is much-talked about couple Uday Chopra and Nargis Fakhri. The couple has been regularly going out for movie dates, holidays, etc but both of them have been refuting the rumours of them seeing each other.

In their holiday pictures shot at Maldives, Nargis is seen in a black bikini and Uday in shorts, unlike Katrina, who regrets of not wearing a matching bikini that day.

In one of her interviews, Nargis has said shared with TOI, "I am most definitely not in love with him." About marriage she said, "I don't believe in the institution of marriage." Adding to that, she said, "I am here to be the best that I can be, make money, and take off."


While Uday Chopra has been flirting with Nargis on Twitter, once he even stated, "Nargis did you know we are related. Your future sons' father is my father's son."

Later on, he tweeted, "Ok fine @NargisFakhri and I are just "friends" yuck that sounds so boring...all this was just part of the #UdayChopraMadnessHour."

But, now since we have the pictures of them together holidaying in Maldives, we believe, there is more than friendship brewing between the couple.

Rani Mukerji to tie the knot with Aditya Chopra in February?

Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji is finally putting end to all speculations surrounding her personal life. And if reports are to be believed then the Bengali actress will tie the knot with her longtime beau Aditya Chopra in February this year.

According to a report published in a leading daily, Rani and Aditya, who have always kept media guessing about their relationship, will get married on February 10 at the famous Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur.

Reportedly Rani Mukerji zeroed in on the venue during Nita Ambani's birthday bash last year. Rani was there at the Umaid Bhawan for the 50th birthday celebrations of Nita Ambani.

The couple was supposed to tie the knot last year but due to the sudden demise of Aditya's father and late filmmaker Yash Chopra in October 2012 it was postponed.

The wedding will be held in traditional Punjabi style. Rani is currently gearing up for her next movie 'Mardani', where she will essay the role of a police officer.

Rani Mukerji, along with her family is always spotted at the Chopra mansion. She was also seen celebrating Diwali with Pamela Chopra, Aditya and Uday last year.
